About Musician Alex W. Young

Alex W. Young is a Pop/Country/Contemporary artist originally based out of Annandale, VA active in the DC, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina music scene. He was adopted at 3 months of age from South Korea and was raised in Alexandria VA.He has one younger brother who is attending UNCW and often is down in the Wilmington, NC area visiting his family who retired in Leland, NC as well as playing shows at various venues. Alex W. Young when he is not busy playing shows likes to go surfing, hang out with friends, go to concerts and go to his weekly hip hop dance class Kazaxe. On Sundays he also volunteers as a Cor team member with 2 separate Catholic youth groups. He was raised Catholic and is still very involved with church events as well as young adult events and attends church every Sunday sometimes more during the week if the schedule allows.

With a wide range of over 3 octaves Alex is a solid Baritone with the ability to also sing bass notes and smooth tenor notes. Melodic Pop and hints of country guitar riffs complemented by a rich and booming baritone voice making Alex W Young a standout fast up and coming artist in the music industry. “Every song I write involves some life experience of mine or something I feel really strongly about, I’m able to write a song about anything really and people see this and relate to it because a lot of it happens to all of us all at some point and it kind of just draws you in” says Alex. Drop by one or more of Alex’s lively public events and you too just might catch yourself singing along.

Alex began his music career as a street musician and even today remains a popular act on both the Ocean City Maryland Boardwalk in the summer months and on King Street near the waterfront. While he can’t be out everyday anymore Alex says “I started a street musician it was my first gig, I’ve moved onto better things BUT I’ll always remember my roots and I still come out when I can just to get back to them”

Fast-forward 4 years to the present Alex has transformed into a top of the line entertainer gigging up and down the East Coast. To start Alex plays at various Senior Centers in the DC area including The Hermitage, Woodbine Nursing, South County Senior Center and St. Martin De Porres Senior Center. He also plays gigs at local Farmers Markets such as Del Ray, West End and Old Town Alexandria Farmers Market. He also plays in coffee shops such as St. Elmo’s, Coffee Nature and Epicure Cafe as well as Potbelly’s Sandwich shop in NE DC.

Alex is also active in the bar and restaurant scene having played shows at venues such as The Grog and Tankard in Stafford, VA, Buffalo Wing University, Fairfax, VA Axum Lounge, NW DC, O’Shaughnessy Pub, Alexandria, VA and Chief Ikes Mambo Lounge, NW DC. Alex also is currently working closely with Operation Renewed Hope, a charity that helps homeless veterans providing music for them at any needed events and has been doing so for almost 2 years. Alex doesn’t just limit himself to playing one city either he also plays in neighboring North Carolina playing a monthly show in Wilmington, NC at an Irish Bar called The Harp as well as an Artisan Gallery in Downtown Wilmington. He also has played at The Firebelly Restaurant and Lounge, Buzz’s Roost and Grinders Coffee in Wilmington, NC.

Alex considers himself a crossover artist similar in a way to Switchfoot and Lifehouse. He not only plays Originals and Covers of Pop, Country, Classic Rock, Irish songs but also plays originals and covers of contemporary Christian music for various Church Retreats and events such as the Good Shepard Catholic Church Confirmation Retreat, various youth groups and the bi-annual Arlington Diocese Young Adult Open Mic Showcase.

Alex W Young even made his debut at a popular interdenominational Christian music festival called The International Day of Praise & Health Fair in March 2014 where he and nearly 20 other artists joined an all day praise and worship event. The highlight of his career to this day remains being accepted as one of 10 performers and the only solo musician at The National Christmas Tree Preshow Lighting Ceremony in 2012. Besides being a popular act to both the crowd and to the event workers he was even featured as the lead in shot to the 11pm ABC 7 news story on the National Tree Lighting singing Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Alex has even had one of his originals called “Endless Summer Dream” spun on college and internet radio stations it first made its radio debut on WDCE University of Richmond College Radio Station on the Signalman show and in the Spring of 2014 was spun on Dr. Rock And The Medicine Show on KZUM in Nebraska.
